Willem Ombelet has contributed to three articles published in the July 2026 issue of The Lancet Obstetrics, Gynaecology & Women's Health.

As first author, he argues that low-cost IVF should be recognised as an essential component of reproductive justice, advocating for affordable, accessible infertility care as a global health priority rather than a privilege.

He also had the privilege of contributing as co-author to two complementary papers:

• Implementing WHO recommendations for infertility: a global call to action – outlining practical steps for implementing the first WHO Guideline on Infertility and strengthening infertility care worldwide.

• Is IVF treatment heading in the right direction? – reflecting on how assisted reproduction can remain firmly rooted in evidence-based, patient-centred, and ethically responsible practice.

Although these articles address different aspects of infertility care, they share a common message: the future of reproductive medicine should be equitable, evidence-based, affordable, and accessible to all who need it.

We hope these contributions help stimulate further dialogue and action towards achieving universal access to high-quality infertility care.
